TO House located in NICON Town is a new gated community with the absence of front fence walls for individual lots, but allowing gates at the sides of buildings that prevent public access to the sides and rear of occupied compounds. 

The architect, Chuka Ihonor of ARG Studio, turned its back on the street to create an inner courtyard around which the house is focused. The front elevation becomes a replacement for the missing conventional front fence wall, offering minimal fenestration, but enlivened by the use of colour, a 9m garden setback from the street and a dramatic overhead cantilever volume. 

The courtyard views are much more elaborately detailed, surrounded by the heavily glazed double height living space and upper family living room (that opens out onto a balcony), both overlooking the swimming pool that forms the focus of the courtyard. A gym also overlooks this pool concourse which is split level. A metal staircase leads down from a balcony atop the gym (and off the Master bedroom) to the pool concourse. Elaborate aluminium sunshade louvres, hung from slim columns, control solar heat and light entering the glazed living areas. 

More unconventionally, the client demanded a large garage that is better described as a motor gallery, complete with an adjoining TV room.
